Welcome to Christmas land! Where pastel coloured cabins nestle among frosty mountains.

I have always been a fan of the intricate icing and innovative use of sweets people decorate gingerbread houses with and I often think how they remind me of embroidery. I am also a huge fan of the work of film director Wes Anderson, his colour palettes and the symetrical designs he uses in his films such as Grand Budapest Hotel. I’ve combined these two loves and created this gingerbread village of ornately decorated pastel houses, perfect for a festive mantlepiece.

The village comprises of three houses and a Chapel. I feel the Pink House, the Log Cabin and the Chapel belong in a cute alpine village, while the Palm Springs pad is the kind of house a rich interloper has built on the outskirts of the village and they’ll never be called a local even if they live there for 80 years! While they may not be traditionally gingerbread colours, the beads, sequins and candy cane embroidery make them feel festive and fun.

Each house is between 8 and 10 cm high but you can adjust the templates to suit your own requirements. I hope you enjoy making them as much as I did.
